Mexico Flying

Playa del Carmen Airport  Notes from Andy Yacoub

  • 80 knots on PDC approach, on the button, though more if heavy.
  • Fly in, and out very light. 30 gallons or less of fuel.
  • If wind 15 knots or greater, don’t land.  Go to Cozumel and take the ferry over.  But generally better wind in PDC than Cozumel.
  • 8-15 knot gusts are BAD.
  • If temperature is greater than 30ºC and you’ve got 4 peolpe, don’t go.
  • If there’s ZERO wind, don’t go (you need some wind).  Not sure I agree with this.
  • Get the Jeppesen Mexico Trip-Kit to get approach plates on the Avidyne.
  • Garmins already have the entire “America’s” on them.
